Donald Akers, Jr. (Donnie),an attorney from Louisiana, is a passionate advocate for persons with chronic illness, their families and the elderly. As a volunteer for over 25 years in the bleeding disorders community he currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Hemophilia Alliance Foundation and as an advisor to the Coalition for Hemophilia B. He served as a director, officer and pro bono General Counsel for the Hemophilia Federation of America for over 20 years.
Donnie provides education and advice as a speaker on legal, financial and advocacy topics to both the bleeding disorders and elderly communities throughout the United States. He maintains a limited civil law practice in New Iberia, LA and is a retired assistant district attorney for the 16th Judicial District of Louisiana where, as the designated Elder Abuse Prosecutor, he managed elder abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation cases. He is a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (ULL) and studied Rehabilitation Counseling in its Graduate School. He is a graduate of the Louisiana State University (LSU) Law School.
